Newcastle

Newcastle is an excellent place for a holiday. The site of the second European settlement in Australia and once a heavily industrialised city, Newcastle is rich in history and fast becoming known for its food, art and beach culture. Home to the original Arnotts biscuit bakery that started it all, Newcastle has evolved reaching a new level of Eastern hospitality.

Being the largest coal harbour in the world doesn’t lend to positive coastal holiday vibes, but we are here to change your mind! Newcastle is an awesome holiday for young and old, and Getaway caravan and camping hire.

Newcastle are ready to get your holiday planning points on the map that is our backyard.

Why not buy your groceries from the Newcastle City Farmers Market, held almost every Sunday at the Newcastle Showgrounds. It’s an easy morning with the kids, making the groceries fun! There are also fine wines, cheeses, pasta, juices, teas, biscuits and handcrafted gifts, clothing and home wares among many other things to see and do – not to forget coffee!

Another great place to check out is Darby St, Cooks Hill, for a look back in time to the beautiful terrace houses of the 1850’s. This is where the early settlers first established residences to cater to the nearest coal mine and is now a bustling hub for the trendy minded, with endless eating options. It’s worth a visit for the trees alone.

There are plenty of lovely little coffee stops and an array of cuisines on offer on the main street. Why not head to Lizotte’s at Lambton for some great live music. Check what’s on for the dates you are away, you might be surprised at what you’ll find! Always a lively night, and caters well to children who enjoy a little bit of night-time stimulation.

Positioned on the Southern riverbank of the Hunter River mouth, there is wealth of water-based activities for the family to get into.

Take the kids swimming in the Glenrock Lagoon, catch the ferry to Stockton Beach for a walk across the sand and a look at some old shipwrecks, or head to Port Stephens for an action packed day quad biking across the sand dunes. For something a little more peaceful, grab a bucket and a rod and go fishing along the beach for an excellent twilight catch.

Historically, a bustling industrial centre, Newcastle has plenty of old museums showing the early Australian way of life – both educational and entertaining for the whole family. Try checking out a game at the Newcastle International Sports Centre. Also on the list is the decommissioned Nelson Head Lighthouse and Fort Scratchley, a fascinatingly rich historical museum about the military in Newcastle.

As you can see, there is no shortage or variety of things to do to keep the family holiday exciting in Newcastle.
